AC Milan given the greenlight to sign Chelsea forward, urged to ignore Arsenal target

Italian giant, AC Milan have been advised to sign out-of-favour Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku and stop pursuing a deal to bring Joshua Zirkzee to San Siro.

Chelsea are keen to offload Romelu Lukaku after another loan spell at Roma last season and the Belgium international has been linked to Napoli.

However, former Argentina forward Hernan Crespo has advised AC Milan to sign Romelu Lukaku this summer instead of Joshua Zirkzee.

AC Milan are struggling to agree terms with Zirkzee’s representatives as Manchester United and Arsenal have entered the race for the forward and encouraged him to wait.

Speaking to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Crespo believes that AC Milan should target Lukaku over Zirkzee.

“Milan need to score straight away,” Crespo said. “The San Siro crowd doesn’t have time to wait, and that’s an important aspect.

“Zirkzee had an excellent season with Bologna, scoring 11 goals. Lukaku wasn’t brilliant last season, but if he has the right motivation and if he’s well prepared from a physical point of view, he can be a guarantee.

Zirkzee is young, how could he cope with the impact at San Siro? Believe me, someone who has experienced that emotion will tell you: playing in that stadium is not like playing anywhere else. Lukaku is used to the big stage.

“For today’s Milan, Lukaku is more suitable.”

Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee has a release clause of just £34 million but AC Milan have failed to negotiate a deal with their fellow Seria A club.

Arsenal are in need of a new centre-forward this summer and have missed out on signing Benjamin Sesko. It’s left to see if Zirkzee will make the switch to Emirates Stadium.
