Barcelona make decision on Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo future

Spanish giant, Barcelona are prepared to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City on another season long loan deal.

Cancelo spent the whole of 2023/24 season at Barcelona after falling out with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. He also spent half of 2022/23 season on loan at Bayern Munich.

Ahead of this summer transfer window, there has been speculations about Cancelo’s future with Guardiola reportedly not willing to have him back in the City squad.

However, new reports from Spanish publication Sport, as cited by Sport Witness, claims Barcelona do not want to sign Cancelo on a permanent basis but on another loan deal.

Despite arriving in Barcelona last September, Cancelo became an important player under Xavi Hernandez. The Portuguese played 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals.

Reports claimed Barcelona would like to keep hold of Cancelo as Xavi would continue working with him.

However, City will have to make do with another loan deal due to Barcelona’s financial situation.

Cancelo is under contract at City until the summer of 2027 and he reportedly wants to stay at Barcelona.

City are willing to cash out on the Portuguese right back but his transfer fee might be a stumbling block for Barcelona.
