Barcelona star refused Olympic call-up with Spain to focus on club football

Barcelona endured a difficult 2023/24 season, failing to compete with Real Madrid and ending the season without a trophy.

However, the club are eager to get back to winning ways under Germany manager Hansi Flick who replaced Xavi Hernandez in the dugout.

In what will be another competitive season, one player who is likely to play an important role in Hansi Flick’s team has rejected Spain call-up to the Olympic team so he can focus on Barcelona.

Ferran Torres is part of the Spain squad at Euro 2024 and scored the only goal of the game against Albania last time out as La Roja made it three wins out of three.

Spain had hoped the former Manchester City forward will also be included in their squad for the Olympics but have been turned down by the forward.

According to Marca, Torres rejected the call because he wanted to stay and fight for his place in the Barcelona squad.

The report claims Torres wanted to go but made the difficult decision to say no because he knew his appearance would be a problem for Barca.

Barcelona are set to miss the likes of Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez and Eric Garcia who have all been called into the squad for the tournament in France and so will miss pre-season.

Torres is not guaranteed a starting spot under Flick and he will be eager to impress during preseason so he can fulfill his huge potential with the Catalonia club.
