Beppe Marotta named new Inter Milan president

Beppe Marotta has been named the new Inter Milan President by club owners Oaktree. This latest development was confirmed in an official statement released by the club.

67-year-old Marotta has been serving as the Nerazzurri CEO since 2018 after an eight-year spell at Juventus.

“F.C. Internazionale Milano S.p.A. (“Inter” or the “Club”) today announces the proposed appointment of Giuseppe Marotta as the new President and the new composition of the Club’s Board of Directors, which will be confirmed at a Shareholders’ Meeting in Milano later today,” the Nerazzurri said in a statement.

“The proposed appointments follow the recent change in ownership. On 22 May 2024, funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, L.P. (“Oaktree”) assumed ownership of Inter following the non-repayment of Oaktree’s three-year loan to Inter’s holding companies”.

Inter won five trophies during Marotta’s stay at the club, including two Serie A titles. The 67-year-old is regarded as one of the most experienced directors in Italian football.

“I would like to thank Oaktree for the trust they have shown in giving me this opportunity to work alongside them and the Board,” said Marotta.

“This appointment is an acknowledgement of the fantastic work of the many people who have run the club over the last three years. I am proud to be part of Inter and remain committed as ever to the club.”

Marotta recently signed a contract extension as the club’s CEO, which would have expired in June 2027. This past March, he said he would have quit football at a club level after the end of his deal at the Stadio Meazza.

American fund Oaktree recently took control of Inter after previous President Steven Zhang failed to repay a debt of nearly €400m, including interest.

Oaktree reiterated in May that they are working to achieve “the best outcome for the long-term prosperity” of the club and to ensure its success on and off the pitch.
