Carragher identifies England’s biggest problem after worrisome Euro 2024 display

England have continued to face criticism from fans and pundits over their performances at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024 championship.

Despite accumulating four points in their first two group stage matches, England were outplayed by their opposition in both matches and might face early exit if such performance persist.

Jamie Carragher has now insists that England’s biggest worry is the fatigue they showed in their dismal draw with Denmark.

According to him, England are hiding under tactical strategy despite struggling from fatigue. He noted that there is no way Southgate will order the team to drop deep after scoring a goal.

“My big worry watching the Denmark game is how shattered so many England players looked,” he said in the Telegraph. “The surest sign of fatigue is dropping too deep. Those trying to claim this was a tactical strategy have got it wrong.

“There is no way Southgate is ordering the team to drop back like that after going one-up. But it has happened too often and he has to fix the line-up to stop it reoccurring.

“Another midfielder alongside Rice will still enable Bellingham to play as an advancing No 8 when we have the ball. The side would look more balanced. It will also help the player and team for Bellingham to have a more disciplined role defensively.

“For Southgate, it is all about being cut-throat and ruthless now to turn the form around. He knows England’s history better than anyone.”

England will face Slovenia in their final group stage game and a win will cement their place in the knockout phase.

Gareth Southgate has been urged to drop Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden. Alexander-Arnold’s role was deemed a ‘risk’ that ‘has not worked’, while Foden has failed to turn up in the two games played.
