Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku set sight on reunion with former blues coach in Serie A

Romelu Lukaku is considered surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge and will be leaving the club either on loan or on a permanent deal this summer.

Lukaku spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Roma and will likely spend next season playing in the Seria A with Napoli.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is looking to reunite with his former Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku.

Conte is set to be named the new manager of Napoli with the Italian tasked with returning the Naples club back to winning ways.

Napoli endured a disastrous campaign, missing out on European football after finishing in 10th place in a tumultuous season which saw them sack two managers.

With Conte set to take over, report claims that Napoli is open to negotiating a swap deal which would see Osimhen and Lukaku move in opposite directions.

In  addition to the swap, the Italian club would also want Chelsea to pay a fee between €80m (£68.2m) to €90m (£76.7m).

However, in a conflicting update, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the two clubs are not working on a swap deal involving Lukaku and Osimhen.

Despite this, Chelsea are willing to let go of Lukaku so far Napoli are willing to pay his £38m release clause.

Lukaku previously enjoyed success under Conte, scoring 24 Serie A goals in the 2020-21 season to help Inter win the league title.

Conte has been out of jon since leaving his position as Tottenham Hotspur boss in March 2023. He is expected to sign a three-year deal at Napoli with Lukaku likely to be his first signing.
