Cristiano Ronaldo Euro record set to be matched by former Arsenal star

Cristiano Ronaldo has become popular for setting various records for club and country, however, he’s about to share one of the his records.

The Al Nassr forward is appearing in his sixth European Championship and he might go on to set various records if things work out fine for Portugal.

However, Switzerland and Bayern Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka is also rewriting history at the ongoing tournament.

Xhaka was selected as UEFA’s man of the match for a second time this tournament after Switzerland were held to a 1-1 draw by Germany.

Despite his side missing out narrowly on top spot in their group, Xhaka’s man of the match award was the fifth time he has claimed the accolade at a European Championships.

And just one more award would see him equal the most in a single tournament (3) and match all-time leaders Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta for most in his career.

Xhaka has been in a great form since he left Arsenal to join Bayern Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. He has become an important figure in Xabi Alonso’s team.

He was a vital cog in the German club achieving an unbeaten domestic double, as well as their march to the Europa League final.

And for Switzerland Xhaka remains central to the plans of boss Murat Yakin, who has drilled his side so effectively that they have emerged as real dark horses at the Euros.

Having qualified for the round of 16, Xhaka will be eager to continue his good form on the pitch, hopefully he’ll equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s man of the match record at the tournament or surpass it.
