Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny reveals his plans for a career change

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed his plans for a lucrative career change despite still playing football at the highest level.

Szczesny has enjoyed a lengthy career and the 34-year-old is unlikely to retire for some time. However, the Poland international has set his sights on life after retirement.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper revealed that he would like to become an architect.

Asked about what he plans to do when he retires, Szczesny said: ‘I have a couple of plans.

‘All of them are more or less related to the development business.
‘Some are pure real estate, others are related to architecture. I would like these businesses to correlate with each other.

‘I would like to study architecture. Ever since I was a young boy I had a very strange dream.

‘When I lived on the tenth floor in Grochow, I could not see the centre of Warsaw.

‘On the other hand there was a small window in the staircase, from which you could see the panorama of Warsaw perfectly.

‘Looking through this window, I thought I would design a building that would change the view of the city. ‘And this is still valid. I would love to design one, build it and sell it.’

Szczesny admits that it will take a long time to fulfil his aim but stated that he is very ambitious.

He said: ‘Of course it will not happen right away, that I will end my career and in five years’ time I will build 150 floors in Warsaw.

‘But that is my goal, to pursue it step by step. My projects, both personal and professional, have become bigger over time.

‘In this development and architectural dream I have so far tried to make larger and larger investments to prepare, hoping one day the dream will come to fruition.

‘It may not happen, but the most important thing is to take small steps all the time.’

Szczesny joined Arsenal as a youth player in 2006 and went on to make 181 appearances for the Gunners. He spent two years on loan at Roma before signing for Juventus in 2017.
