Liverpool confirm first transfer under Arne Slot as new era begins

Liverpool have confirmed the transfer of  Scotland Under-21 team defender Calvin Ramsay to League One team Wigan Athletic for the 2024–2025 season.

Ramsay signed a one year loan deal with Wigan after failing to get a place in Liverpool’s first team.

The youngster will be attempting to put his fitness issues behind him at Wigan as Liverpool made an agreement to allow the Scotsman to depart on loan for a third time.

There were initial talks he will be integrated into the first team for Arne Slot’s inaugural season, however, his new adventure will see him play in League one.

Ramsay while speaking on Wigan official website shared his delight:

“I am over the moon. It happened quickly and I met the manager (Shaun Maloney) two weeks ago.

“I had a really good conversation, and there was an instant connection. I’m excited for the start of the season.

“When I was driving to the training ground, there was a real excitement, and I am hungry to get going and show everyone what I can do. It’s a good opportunity at a good club, and I am raring to go.”

The right-back moved from Aberdeen to Liverpool back in 2022, but an injury ended his season there after only two games played in his debut season.

After that, in the beginning of 2023–2024, Ramsay went on loan to Championship team Preston before concluding the campaign with Bolton Wanderers.
