Liverpool reveals their stand on VAR usage for 2024/25 Premier League season

Liverpool support VAR’s continued use in the Premier League next season despite calls from Wolverhampton Wanderers to scrap it.

Wolverhampton Wanderers released a motion that the technology should not be used next season after series of controversial moments this season.

Premier League clubs are set to vote on the motion and reports from the PA news agency understands the Reds want the system to continue and improve.

That is despite the club being on the wrong end of one of the highest-profile officiating errors of the season, when a Luis Diaz goal at Tottenham in October was wrongly ruled out after miscommunication between on-field referee Simon Hooper and VAR Darren England.

Another top-flight club, who chose to remain anonymous at this stage, has also reportedly expressed their support for VAR when approached by PA.

These early signs of support for VAR come after Wolves submitted a resolution on Wednesday for a vote to abolish the system at the league’s annual general meeting.

Meanwhile, the report adds that Championship clubs will not be discussing or voting on the introduction of VAR into the second tier next season. The Premier League’s experience with VAR, is believed to be a factor contributing to the lack of enthusiasm among Championship clubs, along with cost considerations.

The Premier League has voiced its full support for the continued use of VAR but recognises the need for improvements.
