Liverpool star ruled out of Euro 2024 after suffering huge injury setback

Liverpool forward Ben Doak has been ruled out of Euro 2024 tournament after suffering another injury setback.

Doak had been named in Scotland’s 28-man provisional squad for the tournament and was expected to feature in a friendly against Gibraltar on Monday evening.

However, things took a shocking twist when he was left out of the squad to face Gibraltar.

The Scottish FA has now confirmed that the 18-year-old has withdrawn from his country’s Euro 2024 squad through injury, dealing the teenager a major blow.

Discussing the condition of Doak ahead of Monday’s 2-0 win over Gibraltar, former Liverpool assistant coach and current boss of the Tartan Army, Steve Clarke, said: “Listen, Ben is in the squad to gain experience, to work with us,” said Clarke. “He has been out (injured) for four-and-a-half months so let’s not put too much on Ben.

“He will be available (for Gibraltar), maybe some minutes off the bench. But let’s keep Ben in the right place. Let’s not overhype or overpush him. Let’s do it properly.”

Doak made five first-team appearances for Liverpool this season, though he has not featured at any level for the club since sustaining a meniscus injury while featuring for the under-21s in December.

The 18-year-old will be eager to come back stronger as he hopes to play a prominent role in Liverpool’s first team under Arne Slot next season.
