Man Utd confirms exit of top player after questioning transfer deals

Manchester United

Manchester United have confirmed that director of football John Murtough has left the club as the club continue its rebuilding process under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s.

The red devils are currently having a torrid time on the pitch and chances are being made in every department to ensure a better progress next season.

John Murtough has now become the latest senior executive to leave United following Ratcliffe’s arrival as a new investor.

According to multiple reports, Murtough agreed to step down after being told he would not be part of the club’s long-term future.

Reports also claimed some of Murtough’s transfer deals have been questioned by Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford.

On Tuesday, Ratcliffe in a club statement confirmed Murtough’s departure: “We want to thank John for his loyal service over many years, and for his support and integrity during this period of transition. He leaves with our best wishes for the future.”

Murtough joined United in 2013 and was tasked with rebuilding the club’s football structure. He was promoted to director of football in 2021.

United are on the lookout for a new director of football with Southampton’s Jason Wilcox topping the list.
