Newcastle make £15m move for out-of-favour Arsenal star

Newcastle United have reportedly submitted a bid of £15m for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as they prepare for next season.

Ramsdale lost his place in the Arsenal squad this season after David Raya joined the London club on loan from Brentford.

Raya has since become a sensation at the club, winning the Premier League Golden Glove award and Arsenal are willing to make his deal from Brentford permanent.

The Spanish international has kept 16 clean sheets in 31 league matches.

Ramsdale is prepared for a move away from Arsenal and Newcastle are willing to pay around £15 million for Ramsdale, with the offer of a five-year contract.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe signed Ramsdale when he was manager of Bournemouth and both parties will have another opportunity to work together.

Ramsdale signed a new contract at Arsenal in May last year, at a time when it seemed certain that he would be the club’s No 1 for the foreseeable future. However, things changed when Raya arrived at Emirates Stadium.

Ramsdale has made only two appearances in the Premier League this season. Both of those games were against Brentford, when Raya was ineligible to face his parent club.

The impending arrival of Ramsdale means Martin Dubravka will be allowed to leave Newcastle.

Despite this, Ramsdale will not automatically become first choice at Newcastle, he will have to compete with fellow England international Nick Pope for the jersey.
