The Brazilian international form has attract interest from Man City and Arsenal.

Guimaraes has a £100million release clause in his contract, which expires at the end of June, and clubs are eager to take advantage of that.

With Newcastle in danger of having to sell one of their prized assets to help them comply with profit and sustainability rules, Guimaraes could be put of the club.

With all the scenarios surrounding his future, Guimaraes himself conceded that the club’s financial position may spell the end for his time at St James’ Park.

‘Look, my future, to be honest, is in God’s hands,’ Guimaraes said in an interview with TNT Sports Brazil.

‘I have a contract with Newcastle, I’m very happy, as I said, I know how much they like me, I know everything I’ve been doing for the club.

‘In short, I have a contract, I’m happy. I don’t know what can happen, we know everything about Financial Fair Play, but what I can say is that I feel happy.’
