‘Phenomenal’: Man United legend hails youngster, compares him to Ballon d’Or winner

Man United legend, Nemanja Vidic has compared Kobbie Mainoo to former Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric after his impressive display against Liverpool.

Despite United’s struggle this season, Erik ten Hag has been able to bring out the best in some young players. Amongst them is Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo has cemented himself as an undisputed starter under Erik ten Hag this season, having been promoted from the academy ranks after catching the eye.

His great form for United also saw him made his England debut under Gareth Southgate.

The 18-year-old has now heaped praise on him, comparing him with Real Madrid star, Luka Modric.

Speaking after Man United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, Vidic told Premier League Productions: ‘Mainoo has been fantastic, especially his awareness in these areas.’

‘He reminds me sometimes of Modric.’

‘He always feels who is behind him. You can see, he took the first touch, straight away moved to the side, then it was a great strike. He’s difficult to defend against.’

Kobbie Mainoo has started each of United’s last 15 Premier League games and has also been tipped to make England’s European Championship squad.

Despite United’s struggle this season, Erik ten Hag’s biggest win has come from giving the likes of Kobbie Mainoo a chance to explore.
