Project Stop Mbappe: PSG ex-manager tells Barcelona how to stop Mbappe

Former Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Fernandez has given Barcelona an hint on they can keep Kylian Mbappe quiet during their UEFA Champions League clash.

In what is expected to be a well contested tie, Barcelona will be facing PSG in this seasons Champions League quarter-final.

The first leg will be played in France while Barcelona will have the honours of hosting the second leg.

Luis Fernandez who was PSG manager from 1994 to 1996 and also from 2000 to 2003 has now revealed how Mbappe can be stopped over the two legs.

According to Fernandez, Xavi will have to come up with something better if he wants to deal with the young Frenchman.

“How to stop Kylian? It is difficult because he is very good, because of his way of playing, because of his power, because of his ability to score goals, but as I always say, the collective strength must do it.

“A player alone will not be able to. Xavi will have to come up with a collective plan.”

The former PSG boss added that Mbappe alone will not make a difference, noting that Barcelona also pose a threat.

“Is Mbappe the difference between PSG and Barça? The difference is not made by a player, the difference is made by a talented group. PSG has it with Mbappe, but Barça also has it with Lamine Yamal, Lewandowski and Raphinha in attack.”

“Obviously, Mbappe makes differences because he is very good, but in order to succeed he must have a collective behind him and I like the collective that PSG currently has very much.”

Kylian Mbappe will be eager to make a mark against Barcelona as he continues to be linked with a summer move to Real Madrid.
