‘This is my home’: Real Madrid superstar insists he wishes to retire at the club

Real Madrid veteran midfielder Luka Modric has revealed he wants to end his playing time with the Spanish giant amidst uncertainty about his future.

Luka Modric is currently one of the longest serving players in the Madrid squad and the Croatia captain is closing in on the expiry of his contract and there is still no concrete update on their future.

Despite being linked with numerous clubs outside Europe, Modric has now come out and issued an update, stating that he has already made a decision on his next move, but refused to confirm it.

However, the Croatian midfielder did reveal that his idea is to retire at Real Madrid, the club he considers home.

“The decision on my future is made but I can’t tell you yet,” Modric said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“I have always said I want to retire at Real Madrid, this is what I really want. This would be a dream, this is my home, the club of my life. I want a farewell like Toni Kroos,” he added.

Modric also spoke about retirement. According to the Champions League winner, he still feels good enough to continue at the highest level, saying:

“I can’t say when, I have to see how I feel… but right now, I feel so good physically that I’m sure I can still play elite football. Don’t look at the age, I feel great.”

There had been rumours earlier in the season that Modric could be offered a place on Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff for next season, but the midfielder ruled out such a move at this point in his career.

“I don’t know where it comes from… but no. No assistant, no 2nd coach. I’m still a player, that’s what I want to do! I want to play,” Modric remarked.

Modric will be eager to end the season on a high by winning the UEFA Champions League when Real Madrid face off with Borrussia Dortmund.

The Champions League final will be Luka Modric’s midfield partner, Toni Kroos’ last professional match having announced his decision to retire from professional football following the upcoming Euros next month.
