Son Heung-min rejects Tottenham legend status, gives valid reasons

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has insisted he should not be labelled the club legend until he can help bring silverware to the London club.

Despite starting the 2023/24 season on a bright side, Tottenham failed to keep up with the pressure as they ended fifth on the log. On the flip side, Son enjoyed another productive season scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists for his team-mates.

Son also passed 400 appearances for the club this season and 300 in the Premier League while reaching 162 goals for Tottenham.

The 31-year-old performance has seen him called a club legend by Tottenham fans but he believes there’s still a lot to do.

“It’s been almost 10 years at this amazing club. To be honest, it’s been an incredible journey. There have been so many players I’ve played alongside and managers I’ve worked with who have been so helpful and brought me so many fond memories and respect along the way,” said in an interview in the club’s final matchday programme of the season.

“I still want to make things happen. It’s not down to me to decide if I’m a legend at this club. I wouldn’t call myself a legend because I want to win something here and that’s why I’m so committed. I think we have a bright future with this manager and this squad so we have to keep improving so we can achieve more together.

“When my time does come to leave this amazing club, I hope everyone can call me a legend which will be a huge honour and one I would be so grateful for.”

Son has carried a big responsibility on his shoulder since Harry Kane left Tottenham to join Bayern Munich last summer.

He will be hoping Tottenham win a silverware next season Ange Postecoglou continue the rebuilding process at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
