Why I snubbed Liverpool, opted to stay at Bayer Leverkusen: Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso

Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso has revealed why he opted to stay with the Bundesliga side and rejecting a move to Liverpool next summer.

Xabi Alonso has been tipped to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool next season with the German tactician set to leave after nine years.

However, Alonso who is yet to lose a game with his Leverkusen side this season has now opened up on why he’s not replacing Klopp at Liverpool next summer.

Alonso while speaking to TNT Sports said: “There were many reasons [for deciding to start at the club]. After one year, we’re building a team, we’re building a great spirit here.

“There were many reasons and so many players. The season has been great so far, and for sure we want to keep having this thing together.

“I felt part of it. After one year, it didn’t feel like the right timing, and that’s why I’m committed.”

Alonso, however, insisted that he might still be on his way to Premier League in the nearest future. Liverpool on the hand have set sight on other managers who will replace Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have turned their attention towards Sporting Lisbon manager, Ruben Amorim who is also having a great season in the Portuguese capital.
